People expect me to wear chic hats four seasons of the year. Where’s your hat? they cry when I show up bareheaded. It’s my calling card, and perhaps, writer’s quirk. The truth is hats are my solution to bad hair days! Most of us don’t have the talent to du- plicate beauty salon style at home or the time and resources to visit a hairdresser more frequently. For women, hair symbol- izes attractiveness, and sometimes success and status. If it’s having a dreary day, mood and self-esteem suffer, as well. AN ASTUTE ANSWER Cherry Blow Dry Bar opened its first fran- chise in 2013 as a response to such dilem- mas. The concept is brilliant. No cut. No color. Simply sensational blowout and style at affordable prices in a fraction of the time. Blow dry bars were introduced ap- proximately 10 years ago, and the niche is now the fastest growing segment of the hair care industry, globally generating $40 billion a year. Cherry Blow Dry Bar is an entrepreneur’s opportunity for achievement in a business that will always have a strong customer base. Bob Ferry recognized the potential Cherry Blow Dry Bar offered at a perfect time in his life. He was a Vice President in Clearing for Goldman Sachs and worked with professional traders. When the invest- ment giant closed its Philadelphia office, Ferry faced some tough decisions. He could work in New York, retire, or find a new ca- reer. “I didn’t want to commute and wasn’t ready to sit back and relax full time,” he says. “Years ago, I thought about owning a business one day, so I set out to find the right franchise fit.” A friend advised Ferry to consider Cherry Blow Dry Bar, and he delved into due diligence. In addition to conducting fi- nancial analyses and market research, he talked to a lot of women, including his wife Michelle. “I quickly learned that women do not enjoy styling their own hair. Michelle was fascinated with the franchise’s concept, so we bought the first one in the Philadel- phia suburban area and put plans in mo- tion to launch on the Main Line.” An ideal location was available at Paoli Shopping Center, and Ferry leased the 1,450-square-foot space. Cherry Blow Dry Bar opened in July, and early response has been positive. The décor is sleek, modern – an in vogue vision in white and red. Crystal chandeliers and vanity mirrors add glamor- ous panache to the setting. Fresh flowers, a Michelle touch, complement counters and nooks. There is even a red carpet alcove, complete with velvet ropes, where before and after photos are taken. Bottled water, champagne, and mimosas are offered every day. In short, Cherry Blow Dry Bar exudes class. There are 10 employees, including eight stylists. Women can make appointments or walk in 90 hours a week. The bar is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sat- urday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Cherry Blow Dry Bar blossoms in a world where time is of the essence and looking good is a given.
